March 2004 " UTA Cambodia"  now fully operative with ongoing research with pigs and cattle supported by CARF (Colombia Agricultural Research Fund) and MEKARN  
September 2003 The first Diploma course in Sustainable Agriculture was initiated in Socorro Santander, in a collaborative endeavour with the "Free University" Socorro Branch.  
July 2003 " UTA Cambodia"  acquires a new site in Kandar province some 20 km from Phnom Penh and commences construction of research facilities, a house for students and planting of forage crops  
December 2002 UTA's contract with the Royal University of Agriculture comes to an end and  a new International  Headquarters is established in a farm in Santander, Colombia. A local NGO "UTA Cambodia" is formally established with the Ministry of Foreign Affaires in Cambodia. The Director is MSc Khieu Borin, who has taken on the task of re-locating UTA Cambodia in a new "independent" site in a rural area in Kandal Province.
January through February 2002 The Director and International Coordinator of UTA visit Colombia and Venezuela to supervise the setting up the ecological farms in FUNDESAT and UNET. Construction has started in both locations.  A new foundation in Cúcuta, Colombia (Fundación para el Desarrollo de la Agricultura Tropical - FUNDESAT) has been formed to facilitate the setting up of the ecological farm (Finca Ecológica). 7 December 2001 Mr Kean Sophal and Mr Pich Sophin (UTA-RUA MSc course 1999-2001) successfully defended their theses for the MSc degree "Integrated farming systems for sustainable use of renewable natural resources in the tropics". Both were recommended for the "MSc with Special Merit. The examiners were Professor R A Leng, Australia and"Mr René Sansoucy, France. The theses are posted on the Home Page.  
November 2001 Ms Seng Mom is appointed as new Coordinator between University of Tropical Agriculture and the Royal University of Agriculture of Cambodia. She may be contacted at:

June 2001 The "Alcaldía" of Cúcuta allocates 3 ha of land, in an area designated as a municipal park, on which to establish FUAT's ecological farm. In a contract, drawn up between the "Alcadía" and FUAT, the former agrees to provide the sum of 100 million pesos for creating the infrastructure of the farm.  On its part, FUAT will develop technologies and learning opportunities, related to utilization of local resources, that will have direct relevance to the needs of small scale farmers.   
November 2000 The "Fundación Universidad Agricultura Tropical - FUAT" is established in Cúcuta, Colombia by farmers and professionals with the help of UTA.

UTA, in cooperation with FAO and the Royal University of Agriculture, organises a Workshop on "Training strategy for sustainable farming systems development".

Mr Touch Visal Sok is appointed as new Coordinator between University of Tropical Agriculture and the Royal University of Agriculture of Cambodia.

July 1999 UTA moves to Cambodia. It is located in the campus of the Royal University of Agriculture, Chamcar Daung, Dangkor District, Phnom Penh.
May 1999 UTA in agreement with the Royal University of Cambodia - RUA- decided to prepare to move the base of the UTA MSc course in order to meet the needs of training for Cambodian students and also from the whole tropical world.
The activities at the ECOFARM in Vietnam in agreement with the University of Agriculture and Forestry,  Vietnam will be continued by a group of Vietnamese researchers  under the leadership of Dr Thomas R Preston
November 1998 UTA begins the preparations to establish new training activities in Cambodia. The Royal University of Agriculture (RUA), Cambodia already in 1997 had made available 1 ha of land on their campus for UTA activities.  Since that time Mr Khieu Borin started activities to build up the farm.

The first UTA course, partially financed by the Danish Embassy in Hanoi, began on 18 November 1996 with the introductory residential phase held in the "Ecological Farm" of the University of Tropical Agriculture, located at the University of Agriculture and Forestry (UAF) 

 Thirteen students enrolled in the course: twelve from Vietnam and one from Cambodia. The residential phase, for which a Diploma certificate was awarded, ended on 4 February 1997 and was completed successfully by ten of the original participants. The final examination comprising the defense of the research theses was held in UTA from 16 to 18 November 1998. Nine students reached the final stage of submitting a thesis based on their research. The examiners (Rachel Polestiko; Xavier University, The Philippines, Professor Ronald Leng, University of New England, Australia; and René Sansoucy, Senior Officer, FAO [retired], France) considered that all nine candidates qualified for the degree of "Master of Science", and that three of them had demonstrated a standard of excellence recognised by the award of the degree of "Master of Science with Merit".

The participation of the Vietnamese students was partially financed by DANIDA through the Danish Embassy in Hanoi.  The student from Cambodia was financed by a scholarship awarded by his institution, the Jesuit Service Cambodia, through a grant from the Catholic Committee Fund for Development of France.

The Founders of UTA gratefully acknowledge the support received from the University of Agriculture and Forestry in facilitating the use of an area in the College Campus on which the UTA facilities are situated.
